Hilary Watson

Faithful

She stands at the front step
looks up at the telegraph poles,
the electric street lights.

Sobbing children drag nannies
at the crossings. Say it matters,
scream the clouds. Nobody
listens to the crashing bins.

Perfect thunder. Syllables of rain.
God, I love what you do to me
at night. No more, no more.

Hilary Watson lives in Cardiff with her girlfriend. She has been a Jerwood/Arvon Mentee. Her poems have appeared in magazines such as Poetry Wales, Butcher’s Dog, and The Interpreter’s House. She was shortlisted for the Troubadour International Poetry Prize (2018).
